Today 8BH had the chance to attend a Digital Ignition workshop run by Lyn. Our topic was "Think Like a Tech Creator." Lyn took hold of the class which gave me an opportunity to enjoy the session as well and I learned a lot along the way. My notes from her session are below:
Vocabulary Terms:
Digital devices (hardware) - chromebook, laptop, ipad, phone, tablet, PC, console
Algorithm - step by step set of instructions to solve a problem
Bug - when your device isn’t doing what it is supposed to
Debug - fixing your device and resetting the algorithm
Decomposition - fixing a big problem, breaking down and resetting the algorithm
Input - signal or data that is received by a digital device
Output - what occurs/comes out from the input
Software - what’s on your digital device - apps, programs, etc.
End user - who is the majority market - what do they need?
Binary (coding) - any combination of 2 parts ex) black, white, 0, 1
Functions - a group of instructions with a name on it ex) cleaning your teeth, putting on shoes

Group jigsaw puzzle - 4 groups, but they all make one large puzzle. Kids need to acknowledge that they all go together.
Need to collaborate, work together for the bigger picture
Passion, Contributions, Skills + Knowledge - they all come together to make ‘the perfect job’
Technology old and new matching card game:
How does technology change or take over? Does it get easier? More user friendly?
Step by Steps in daily life - ex) how to brush teeth
Explaining to a ‘robot’ what to do… example of things we do at school
Fitness - means, get changed when you get to school, drop bags, run to courts…
Even simple instructions have step by steps to follow - algorithms
Design Thinking Process
Empathising - finding a need
Ideation - thinking of the idea
Design - creating
Prototyping - initial build, draft
Testing - trying it out
Evaluation - feedback
